ESL IDEA 1: Expressing Ability: Jobs

Ages: Pre-school - Elementary

Objective: Students will describe job responsibilities

Materials: 1. Pictures of Jobs and Occupations 2. Words related to jobs and occupations 3. Sentences describing job responsibilities (One per student)

Activating Prior Knowledge: Have kids match the pictures with the words. They take turns to go upfront to match one picture and one word on the floor. Ask kids how those words are related.

Teacher´s Input: Give each student a sentence. Ask 5 students to read out loud their sentences. Hand out a sheet of paper and a blank sentence strip. Ask your students to write their sentences on the sentence strips they are handed. Then have everyone draw a picture that portraits the sentences. Eventually they will ask the teacher what the sentences mean. Describe to them, in turns, what each sentence is portraying. Have kids paste both their drawings and their sentences on a poster.

Assessment: Have some kids come the front of the class and describe their pictures and sentences.
